Salem State College has designed this certificate program for those individuals who wish to further their education in the world of art and design. Graphic design focuses on providing print and non-print media resources for businesses and other organizations. Trained professionals in this field provide solutions to many complex design and advertising problems, as well as develop the actual printed media piece.
Salem State College's Art Major Program is nationally accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). The certificate program in Graphic Design combines an intensive program of training in the technical knowledge and skills of the computer graphics field with a rigorous academic program in art and design. This program deals with the planning and design of graphic materials for advertising, desktop publishing, corporate art, graphic production and interactive multimedia.

ART314 Electronic Publication Design 3 Credits
ART351 Electronic Illustration 3 Credits
ART410 Electronic Imaging 3 Credits
ART415 Graphic Design Theory and Practice 3 Credits
Choose three of the following courses:
ART315 Typography 3 Credits
ART384 Web Design 3 Credits
ART420 Advanced Web Design 3 Credits
ART430 Multimedia Design 3 Credits
ART500 Directed Studies/Design 3 Credits
ART501 Internship in Art 3 Credits
The Certificate of Competency in Graphic Design will be awarded to students satisfactorily completing 9 courses in Art & Graphic Design as indicated above.
The individual must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 as a minimum for courses taken at Salem State College.
*A total of 9 credits may be transferred from other accredited institutions.
