Dear Applicant:Thank you for your interest in the Master of Science in Mathematics degree program. This program is intended to provide a sound foundation for further graduate study at the doctoral level and to provide additional education for teachers at the secondary school level or beyond. It can also serve those who have or who are looking for careers in industry, research and commerce (including insurance and financial planning).
The graduate Mathematics programs at Salem State University have been designed to be especially convenient for students wanting to pursue a graduate degree in Mathematics on a part-time basis. Each course is generally offered one evening a week in the Fall and Spring semesters (from 4:30 - 6:50 pm or from 7:00 - 9:20 pm) or two evenings a week in the six week periods of Summer I (May - June) or Summer II (July - August).
The program of study involves 30 credit hours of Mathematics courses. Courses are divided into Level I and Level II, of which Level II courses are more advanced. More details of program requirements and course descriptions may be found at http://www.salemstate.edu/~arosenthal/msbroch.htm#Program Requirements or in the Graduate School Catalog.
If your application is not complete at this time, you may register for up to three appropriate graduate courses, in consultation with the program advisor. As long as you get a grade of "B" or better in each course, these would count toward program requirements once your application is approved.
If you contact me, I would be glad to mail you application and letter of recommendation forms. Applicants will be considered for admission when all requested materials have been received. Entrance into the program may be made in September, January, or May; whichever is convenient for the student's course of study, but Fall admission is preferable..
Should you have any questions about the program, please feel free to contact me at 978-542-6392 or at arthur.rosenthal@salemstate.edu .
