Lathrop Award

The Thomas G. Lathrop Award is a monetary award presented annually since 1980 to students who have demonstrated excellence in mathematics or computer science at Salem State College. Students are selected on the basis of recommendations made by faculty in the Mathematics and the Computer Science Departments and on their overall achievement in mathematics and computer science courses. The award is made in memory of Professor Thomas Lathrop , an especially well-liked and highly regarded colleague in the Mathematics Department who passed away in 1978. Professor Lathrop was also instrumental in giving computer usage and computer science education a big start at the College in the '70s. The funding of the award is independent of college funds and is entirely supported by contributions from the Lathrop family as well as from faculty, administrators, and students.
