GENERAL INFORMATION

  1.1) What is the cost per course for Massachusetts residents? 
 
  Tuition is $140 per credit hour, fees are $95 per credit hour.  Each 3 credit course = $705.

    Tuition is $230 per credit hour, fees are $95 per credit hour.  Each 3 credit course = $975.

  1.3) Is there an air conditioned place to study?
 
    The Math Lab in SB306 is air-conditioned.  The Library is also air-conditioned.

  1.4) Where is the bookstore?  Where is the Sullivan Building?
 
    The bookstore is on the Central Campus on Loring Avenue.  (It is in Building 4 on the map found at the following link: http://www.salemstate.edu/~arosenthal/sscocrte.htm).  The Sullivan Building is on the North Campus at the Corner of Loring Avenue and Lafayette Streets.  (Routes 1A and 114).  (It is in Building 15 on the map found at the following link:  http://www.salemstate.edu/~arosenthal/sscocrte.htm).

CLASS SIZES

  2.1) What are the class sizes for graduate Mathematics courses?
 
  In the past five years, the biggest graduate Mathematics course had an enrollment of 18 students.  The smallest graduate Mathematics course that ran had an enrollment of 6 students.  (When classes with fewer students than that were cancelled, students who had registered for the cancelled course on time and asked the Program Coordinator were generally able to arrange a directed study or "course by arrangement").

COMPLETION OF DEGREE

  3.1) What is the shortest time a student took to earn a Master's degree in Mathematics at Salem State College in the past five years?
 
  The shortest time a student took to earn a Master's degree was 1.8 years.  (The student started in September and finished all degree requirements in June of the following academic year).

  3.2) Is there a time limit for completion of the degree?
 
  All requirements for the degree normally must be completed within six years from the date of the student's acceptance.  No graduate course offered for the degree may be more than six years old at the time degree requirements are completed with the exception of any courses accepted in transfer.

  3.3) How many students received Master's degrees in Mathematics from Salem State College in 1999 and 2000?
 
  Ten students (five in each academic year) received Master's degrees in Mathematics from Salem State College in 1999 and 2000.

  3.4) If I complete degree requirements in June, do I need to wait until the next graduation ceremony in May before receiving proof that I completed my degree?
 
  No, you may get a letter from the Registrar's Office certifying that you have completed all requirements for the degree if you ask.

GETTING TO SALEM STATE COLLEGE

  4.1) How can I get to Salem State College using the MBTA?
 

The 455 and 459 bus routes go right by Salem State College, on routes going from Salem Depot to downtown Boston. The Newburyport/Rockport commuter rail line stops at Salem Depot, which is about 1 mile from Salem State College, and gets to North Station in downtown Boston in about 30 minutes. The 451 bus goes from Salem Depot to Beverly and the 465/468 bus  goes from Salem Depot to Danvers via the North Shore Mall and the Liberty Tree Mall.  MBTA  bus and commuter rail schedules may be found online by using this link.

  4.2) What parking lots are closest to the Sullivan Building?  What is the parking decal fee?  Is there an online map showing where Salem State College is that I can download quickly?
 
  The following parking lots are closest to the Sullivan Building:
  1. O'Keefe Sports Complex LOT C
  2. Peabody Hall LOT C (behind the Library)
  3. The new Central Campus LOT C
The parking decal fee is $5 per semester.  Decals are available from the Central Campus Public Safety Building.
Evening Hours:  Monday - Thursday 4 pm - 7 pm during the first week of each semester
Day Hours:  Monday - Friday 7 am - 3 pm
