The origins, central teachings, and legacies of Judaism, (continued)

The captivity of the Israelites in Egypt starts when the son of Jacob, his two jealous brothers sell Joseph into slavery.  It is from this point that the Bible presents the story of Moses and his brother Aaron and the Exodus of the Israelites out of Egypt.  During their escape in the desert Moses is commanded by God to bring the law to the people of Israel; the Ten Commandments.

The Jews roam the desert for forty years before Joshua carries on where Moses left off.  The Lord told Joshua, ``No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life.  As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you or forsake you." Joshua 1:5  After three hundred years of great trial and tribulation under the rule of the Judges,  Saul comes to power and forms the first kingdom of Israel.
