Flash drive (any brand), 1GB or larger, for saving assigned work (this is your backup in case of computer failure), note-taking or downloading course-related materials from the internet or email.

Must use Salem State email address; any student may bring a laptop with wireless connectivity for use in one or all classes. Check with Information Technology (IT) for assistance in using wireless at Salem State BEFORE coming to the second class.

Pen/Pencil and Notebook

Writing instruments and paper, for taking notes during class. Rather old-fashioned, BUT no batteries, no power cable, no ear buds required.

Required Software on all Laptops

Must have Microsoft Office 2010 for use in class or for homework. Office version is dependent on what is installed in the computer lab that the class is held in. Please note: it is a PC computer lab, not a MAC lab.

Required Text

No book required for Spring Semester, 2012.

Classroom Civility

Courtesy, politeness, manners and civility are all forms of awareness. Students are asked to practice those virtues in the classroom by not using Beepers, Cameras, Cell Phones, CDs, Drinks, Food, Foul Language, Gum, Head Phones, Music, Pagers, Personal Stereos (iPod, other MP3, CD, DVD), or Radios in the classroom. The professor and fellow students thank you in advance for creating an exceptional learning environment.

Computers and Software

If a student has their own laptop, they should be cautious with what they download. The STUDENT is responsible for viruses, spyware, adware, slow response times, pop-ups and anything else that may compromise the running of the laptop and their ability to complete their assignments. If the student's laptop is not functioning, it IS NOT AN EXCUSE for not submitting assignments. The university has several computer labs with Office 2010 installed. Find out where they are BEFORE you have a problem.
