Required Text:          Hogg and Tanis, Probability and Statistical Inference, 8th Edition, Prentice Hall, Upper Saddle River, NJ, 2010.

Suggested:                  TI-83 or TI-84 Graphing Calculator

                                    Minitab Release 16 (soon to be available in the Math Lab)

 

Course Description:       

 

An introduction to descriptive statistics and basic probability theory.  Topics include: descriptive statistics, probability models, random variables and their distributions, expectation, variance, moment generating functions, regression and correlation.  The binomial, Poisson, exponential, normal , chi-square, t and F distributions will be studied.

                                    Exam 2 (tentative date: Thursday, November 17th)      20%

                                    Attendance and class participation                                 5%

 

The instructor may also take effort and improvement into account when assigning grades.
