MONTANA FIELD CAMP 2006

This year we started Field Camp in the Gros Ventre area of Wyoming, toured Yellowstone National Park, completed a field project along the Gallatin Gateway near the park boundary and finished up in Dillon Montana where our majors, like many field geology students from across the country, mapped in the Block Mountain area.

Doug & I have a great view from this vantage point near Block Mountain Montana.
Yellowstone was bursting at the seams with baby buffaloes this year!
Students get some last minute pointers before leaving for a day of field work in Block Mountain area of  Montana.
Since several of our majors work in restaurants during the school year an elegant camp birthday celebration for the three geminis of the group was possible.
This is not unusual weather for early summer in Montana - we were glad it wasn't snow.

Birch Creek Recreational Center is a terrific place for budding geologists to stay while working in the Dillon area.
