THE THOMAS FRAZIER HOMESTEAD

 SCHOODIC POINT, ACADIA NATIONAL PARK

Thomas Frazier was probably the first African-American to settle in downeast Maine—tax rolls show him as a landowner as early as 1775.  Archaeologists have discovered the probable site of his house and we went up to try and expand upon their work.  How big was the homestead? Were there any outbuildings? LL Bean funded the six students and Acadia National Park provided housing.  A great site in an outstandingly beautiful location.
